"They may forget what you said but they will never forget how you made them feel."
- Carol Buchner
At the end of my second year of teaching Kindergarten, a student gave me a photo frame with this quote. The quote hit home and made me really think about how influential I am to each student. I keep the photo frame on my desk to remind me every day to make each child feel appreciated and loved as well as unique and special.
Isn't that quote very profound? It really makes you stop and think about the impact you have on children. I remember a similar quote that read something like '100 years from now it won't matter how much money I have, the car I drove, or what my house looked like but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child'. It is so easy to forget, but so fundamental that we don't!
ReplyDeleteWow!! I love this quote!! It is so true. Now, that I look back, I think about when I was younger, I don't remember any of that. I don't remember if my parents' stuggled, or what car they drove, and if I didn't know my mother, I wouldn't have remember if our house was clean or messy (although, my mother always kept a clean house). But I do remember, the time they spent with me. I remember being little, and I guess with 6 girls we didn't have a lot of money, but my parents, played a game with us, and we had to count the change and roll it. :) I didn't realize at the time, it was probably because we didn't have a lot of money, I thought it was either a game or they were trying to teach me to count money.
ReplyDeleteChildren do let things in one ear and out the other, but they never forget the day that "you made them sad, or happy or feel special".
Awesome quote!!

Very creative Blog! The quote should resonate with every educator ... not only ECE. Our impact is almost immeasurable. Simply remember to treat your students as you would treat your children. They simply want your love... yes it is simple but educators can and often do make it complex!
